On July 5th will be the 100th Anniversary of the death of the painter Paul Cézanne,1839-1906. The city of Aix-en-Provence, will realize a festival to celebrate that important date with the participation of an exceptional concert of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, who will play Gustav Malher’s Symphony No 5.

This concert, as an unprecedented musical celebration, will take place around of St Victoire Mountain, which is a "Cézannian" site above all.
I had the privileged to go to Aix-en-Provence last year, and I visited Cézanne’s atelier and also St. Victoire Mountain. It was so emotional for me!!! Seeing his brushes, his bowls, mugs and small sculptures that he drew over and over, his chair, his Delacroix’s reproductions pictures... about everything that belonged and was used by the artist Cézanne are there, almost intact.
It is a simple room, gray room, but it holds those impressionists’ feelings that help us to get that feeling of the resting or of the disturbing of Cézanne’s mind.
Well, Cézanne didn’t feel comfortable under impressionism skin. He reacted against the lack of structure in the Impressionist paintings and said that he intended to make Impressionism into "something solid and durable, like the art of the museums". He innovated beyond Impressionism working days and nights in his atelier and he is ranked alongside the Post-Impressionist artists such Van Gogh, Seurat and Gauguin.

The atelier is large and very well illuminated by natural light, and it was drawn by the proper painter! The windows revel the house’s garden, from one side, where I walked for hours thinking about how many great conversations between Cézanne and Zola it had listened to. It was full of people, especially family having fun and children playing around the sculpture’s garden.
The atelier was built on an elevated field and from there is possible to see from the other side the most painted mountain in France, perhaps of the world, St. Victoire’s mountain that was one of his top list subjects ever. He painted that beautiful mountain many times, exploring different light’s colors all year around and also using diverse techniques, what made possible the recognition of St. Victoire as Cézanne’s mountain all around the world.

The oranges and the apples that Cézanne used to paint “are” there. They got dried and/or got rotten and then they disappear on its on rottenness. I have no idea about the criteria of changing them. But… they are there and it’s the Cézanne’s look that makes us to see them in a very particular way, as forms inside of forms, for beyond the exterior structure of its function…their brightness, their colors…the same look that Bracque and Picasso had and transformed it forever, taking it and letting it further and further…but from this room, of this room.

Well, I tried to get tickets for the concert, but it was sold out in few hours and 10.000 tickets were available.
